Celebrating 47 Years of Escaping the Everyday

This year is a special milestone for us at Okanui 47 years of escaping the everyday.

It all began in 1978, when Dick Ash stitched together the first pair of hibiscus print shorts from old Avalon postal bags on his Mum’s sewing machine. What started as a simple idea has grown into something much bigger, a community built on escaping the everyday.

 Whether it’s paddling out for a surf, hitting the road with your mates, or just taking a quiet walk along the beach, Okanui has been part of so many memories. We feel incredibly grateful for your support and know we wouldn’t be here without you all.

Our story has never been about chasing trends. From the very beginning, it’s been about creating clothing that allows you to live simply, freely, and comfortably. Each collection is a reflection of that original spirit designed for anyone who craves adventure in whatever they do.

As we celebrate 47 years, we’re reminded of the generations who have worn Okanui. Parents passing down their favourite classic shorts. Kids growing up in their dad’s oversized tees. Friends heading off to the beach in product that's made to last for all your Summers ahead. This milestone isn’t just ours , it’s yours too.
