Okanui Turns 40 - Time to Celebrate

Let’s celebrate this huge milestone - 40 Years of Okanui!

Okanui is not just another clothing brand it’s a brand with a story, a rich heritage, shared with many of its loyal customers.

The brand has come a long way since the Mid 50’s when a young Dick Ash (the Founder) was enjoying the good life, living in and around the ocean, surfing everyday and riding the big wooden surfboards unique to Australian Surf Culture called Okanuis.

Dick decided he needed longer length boardies rather than the shorter version available at the time so he borrowed his mother’s sewing machine and made his first pair of Okanuis out of the canvas from the Avalon Post Office mailbags.

A few years later in 1978 he launched Okanui the clothing brand on the back of the famous hibiscus print inspired by his travels to the Pacific Islands. From this point Okanui took off, everybody needed a pair.

To this day Okanui remains a family owned Australian business focused on providing high quality products for our amazingly loyal customers.

Okanui is now is stocked in over 50 Retailers Australia-wide and our products are sold Nationally and International on our website okanui.com. More recently we have re-opened our Flagship Store on Hastings Street in Noosa Heads (click to see more) so make sure to drop in the next time you are up that way.

What’s in store for Okanui in the future?

We are currently working on some exciting global opportunities.
And most importantly, we continue to provide high quality, easy wearing, stylish clothing for our amazing Customers
