Postcards From Manly Beach - Aug

For nearly 100 years, Manly has been known as the place that’s 7 miles from Sydney, and a thousand miles from care, and for good reason too. With so many waves to surf, shops to visit and places to eat; it would be an absolute no-brainer to add this joint to your bucket list.

Boasting over 200 stores in its heart, it's super easy to make a day out of eating well and exploring what Manly has to offer. Whether you’re passing by solo, with a buddy or with your family; here’s a few activities you’d be wild to miss out on if you’re ever in Man-town.

1. Hire a bicycle

Hiring a bike from the good people at Manly Bikes (directly across the road from Manly Wharf on West Esplanade) is the easiest and best way to get around town! Whether you’re hiring for an hour or multiple days, these guys will fix you up with a beach cruiser, e-bike or fun tandem setup that will get you around the suburb at the perfect pace.

2. Take a trip up to the lookouts at North Head

On your trusty two-wheeled steed, peddle your way up to North Head, where you can see some of the most breathtaking views of all of Sydney. Being a historic nature sanctuary, expect plenty to see; from the decommissioned gun placements from the second World War, to the cackling Kookaburras in the trees and the spectacular views of Sydney from the inlet of one of the most famous harbours in the world.

3. Ride the waves of Manly Beach

Home turf of surf legends such as Midget Farrelly and Layne Beachley, the waves at Manly Beach really have something for everyone. If you’re after some equipment, look no further than Dripping Wet at North Steyne, about 500m south of the Corso. Talk to Andy or Jeshayle down there and they will hook you up with whatever you’re after (any boards/wetsuits/equipment) for hire or purchase. With waves year-round, the water at Manly Beach is perfect for surfers of all experience levels.

4. Get a feed at the Steyne Hotel

First established in 1859, The Steyne is easily the longest running establishment in Manly. Home to a number of local and international beers on tap, a lavish gin bar, a full bistro menu and even accommodation, a trip to Manly isn’t complete without enjoying a frothy overlooking the Corso. Keep an eye out for local events and specials on their website, there’s sure to be something for everyone at the original Manly watering hole.

  5. Get a wardrobe upgrade at the Okanui Manly store

Just down the road in North Manly is the Okanui warehouse store. Come down and say g’day to Brad while shopping around for some classic styles that will make the perfect wearable souvenir or gift for the unlucky ones you left at home. There’s plenty of ranges for Winter warmers and summer styles, so get in and throw on what the locals wear; a label that was born and bred right here in Sydney over 40 years ago.
